Narrative

A mother red panda woke up in the daylight of the sunset. The temperature is 19˚C, a great temperature for the red panda. She comes out of her hole in a hollow tree being followed by four young cubs each with their own names: Kirby, Metty, Dedede, and Waddle. She is very lucky that she had the privilege to give birth to four cubs when red panda’s usually give birth to 2 or 3. They move slowly taking their first steps outside their comfy hollow tree. They all go to search for food. They were searching for food until they heard a really loud gunshot not far away, the mother and the young cubs quickly climb up on a tree so that they can hide hoping for the predator not to find them. Another gunshot was head and it was even closer then the last gunshot. They held on to the branches of the trees as hard as they could hoping for whatever that just made the gunshot noise would go away. Then, out of nowhere, the group heard barks from dogs. Mother red panda has never ever come in contact with a situation like this. BOOM. Another bullet was fired but this time instead of nothing happening, Waddle was shot in the head and fell from the tree. After a while of panic, anxiety, and fear. Mother red panda didn’t hear any barking anymore or any gunshots and so she continued to search for food with only three cubs left. They came across a large quantity of young bamboo which is very rare since bamboo flowering, the event of a large amount of bamboo dying, occurred. They ate happily but that meal was not enough to fill their stomach.
It was already well in the night and all was quiet. Another gunshot was heard and once again, they climb up a tree waiting for the predator to go away. Then barking noises were heard again and were very near. Kirby wasn’t on a good branch and the branch broke leaving Kirby to fall down hitting a poacher right on his head. The poacher dropped unconscious while Kirby was still okay. Dogs surrounded Kirby but Kirby, as fast as her legs can take him, climbed up a surrounding tree searching for Mother red panda. After a while she finally found them. Mother red panda quietly listened for any movement below them. All the dogs had scattered leaving the poacher’s body on the cold floor. The Mother red panda once again climbs back down followed by her three cubs. They continue to search for food until it was almost dawn and they needed to rest. However, when they went back to their hollow tree, they couldn’t find it. Their hollow tree was cut down by logging industries. Tired, they walk slowly to conserve as much energy as possible, to try to find a new hollow tree which they can use as their new home. They search and search however hollow trees have become scarce and they couldn’t find one. After a while, Metty spotted a hollow tree and show Mother red panda. They spent their day there resting as much as possible.

The next day, they, once again at sunset, came out of their hollow tree to search for food. However, this time, a more natural predator has spotted them. The snow leopard crouched trying its best not to be spotted by his prey. The red panda finds some bamboo but Dedede walks too far from Mother red panda. Dedede finds more bamboo and eats hungrily until the snow leopard strikes and Dedede was never heard of again. Mother red panda was trying to find Dedede, however, her cub was nowhere to be found. Thus, she pressed on with her two cubs to find food. After their search was over, they went back to their hollow tree so that they can rest.

After 13 months, the surviving red panda, Kirby, said goodbye to her mother so that Kirby can now live a life on her own. Metty died by being eaten by a yellow-necked martens. Kirby had troubles at first finding her hollow tree since they were even harder to find when the forest logged to the point where little amounts of land were left for the wild life. After a while she finally found her hollow tree. However, she was never able to give birth to cubs because she couldn’t find any mates. Maybe she was unlucky or there was a scarce amount of males at the time.
