To whom it may concern,

Earth is a very important place to us because it is our home. However, we are not it’s only inhabitants, there are also many other species that depend on the Earth to provide them with shelter, food, water, and many other necessities. Since we are taking so many resources from the planet we are also taking it away from the animals, which is why we humans are responsible for protecting and preserving the animals and their habitats that we have harmed.
One of these is the ailurus fulgens commonly known as the red panda. They are small creatures that that look similar to raccoons. There are currently fewer than 2,500 red pandas left in the wild and it is vital that we take action to save them due to the effects its extinction would cause on people and ecosystems. For example, there is a forest guardian named Sange Sherpa in Nepal who does agricultural farming but as the number of red pandas decreased, a new wild boar appeared, it is very harmful to his crops and as a result this his farming is affected and so is his food supply. Also, many other Nepalese people depend on the red panda’s habitat for their survival because the Nepal forests could prevent landslides. In the past, the dense root systems and undergrowth of Nepal’s forest were reliable in retaining moisture and water runoff. However, logging and other forms of forest destruction have disrupted this balance and annual monsoons send soil tumbling down mountain sides. The people here also depend on the resources nearby and are ready for change but they do not have the lack other alternatives. This problem cannot disappear on its own and require people to find a way in which conserving the red panda’s prime habitat will actually help the nearby communities.
There are already many people working and putting in an effort to protect this species such as the Red Panda Network and many zoos that have replanted trees in the habitats of red pandas and contributed to research and captive breeding in order to help with the conservation of the red pandas. However, there are many more things that are needed and can be done but without the support and assistance of many people this will not be possible.
